Update 1.7.0 Notes

Patch V1.7.0 Announcement

Hello adventurers! Patch 1.7.0 is now live, and it builds directly on the audio foundation laid in 1.6.0. Sound in Meridian is now truly positional: sounds follow moving objects, monsters swing from where they’re standing, doors creak from their actual location, and music streams more efficiently behind the scenes. The world is also getting more atmospheric — flickering lights now work in hardware rendering, torches and glowing weapons cast dynamic light, and translucent walls open up new visual possibilities.

Alongside all of this comes a long list of gameplay, item, and rendering fixes.

As always, thank you for continuing to play Meridian and for being part of the community. If you run into any issues, please report them using the in-game bug report feature.

Gameplay Changes

  • Hunt has been re-enabled. The spell will now complete unsuccessfully if the target player is offline after channeling.
  • Stomach fullness feedback has been expanded, giving players a clearer sense of how full they are.
  • Joguer, the Barloque apothecary, now buys non-gem reagents and sells blue mushrooms.
  • The knight shield drop rate has been increased.
  • Weapon attribute proficiency failure messages have been standardized.
  • A few new sound effects were added. See if you can spot them!
  • Statues and logoff ghosts now show held musical instruments.
  • The shrine puzzle in A dark, humid cavern has been updated to accepted a regular helm as intended, not a magic spirit helm.

Item Changes

  • Cleaned up item description formatting for wands, disciple robes, the Riija sword, unidentified items, and the herald shield.

World Changes

  • Flickering light effects are now supported in hardware rendering, the appearance of static dynamic lights has been restored to the original look, and flickering objects no longer appear during the day.
  • Torches and weapons with the glow enchantment now cast dynamic light.
  • Doors got an audio upgrade: the long creaking sound has been replaced, doors now make a sound when closing, and all door sounds are positional.
  • Added support for translucent walls, opening up new visual possibilities for rooms across Meridian.

Client Changes

  • Sound is now fully positional: sounds follow moving objects, monster swings play from the monster rather than its target, looping sounds correctly track their owners, and one-shot sounds have their soft distance falloff restored.
  • Music now plays on a dedicated streaming thread using OGG streaming, improving performance and reliability.
  • Volume sliders now take effect immediately as you adjust them, and slider selection behaves correctly.
  • Experimental groundwork for client theming has been added behind the scenes. This is an early work in progress and not yet ready for everyday use — keep an eye on future patches.
  • Map annotations now support text labels.

  • Fixed an order-of-operations bug affecting Invisibility, Magic Shield, and Umbrella.
  • Fixed an error when interacting with the Spring of Vitality while under the effects of Second Wind.

  • Fixed dark patches appearing near lights when monsters die during a flash effect.
  • Fixed server errors from the Lupogg King’s earthquake death sequence, along with its room death messages.

  • Pressing Q while switching screens no longer logs you out unexpectedly.
  • Fixed a issue with the About dialog knights animation.
  • Fixed a crash related to the Who list.
  • Fixed password reset failing for email addresses containing an underscore, and improved password reset verification handling.

  • Added admin helpers for placing flickering lights.
  • Admins and DMs no longer receive improvement cap messages.
  • Fixed a misspelling of “transcendent” in the DM create itematt command.
  • Faction lieges and councilors are no longer lost when a room is recreated.
  • The Room Editor received usability and navigation improvements, and can now be built with Visual Studio 2026.
  • Visual Studio solution and project files have been added for easier building and debugging, and the build now compiles all projects rather than just the main ones.
  • Added a C function for string token replacement in Blakod, and a point-in-sector utility for checking presence in room sectors.
  • Webhook computation is now skipped entirely when webhooks are disabled.
  • Fixed a server account script crash loop that occurred when the network was not ready at boot.
  • This update also includes a sizable round of behind-the-scenes work: fixes for server errors and garbage collection issues, timer cleanup for unreachable objects, memory tracking improvements, removal of obsolete statue upgrade code, code modernization, and ongoing refactoring efforts.
